Preparing Pieces for Outdoors
There are three great ways to use Arkahdia Arts products outdoors:
- Cast Stone for Submerged Water
For items being used in damp or wet environments, such as a pond, fountain or hit by a sprinkler every day, use our items cast in GFRC (Glass Fiber Reinforced Cement). They will withstand the harshest of elements
- Coated for Waterproofing*
For items being used in wet environments, hit by a rain and/or sprinkler every day, snow in the winter we can do a coat Aqua-Resin and then apply our designer finish in the first 24 hours of curing to make it a permanent waterproof hard coat. This has the added advantage of strengthening the piece against shock hits. Aqua-Resin in the same material used at many of your higher end theme parks (like Disneyland and Adventureland) to coat sculptures. It is about twice the finishing cost of our normal weatherproofing so give us a call if your interested.
- Sealed plaster*
Our normal hydrostone & plaster mix can be stable enough in an outdoor environment under the
following condition, it's fully sealed. (inside and out)
We recommend applying 4 to 5 coats of urethane. This can be done with clear urethane, or acrylic based spray paint like Krylon. Latex
based paint, marine sealant, and/or even car enamel.
Five coats of a marine sealant is our recommended choice for weatherproofing Arkahdia Arts plaster pieces. We can apply the clear weatherproofing over finished or unfinished pieces at a small additional fee to any piece.
*Please note: This does not mean you can use them in a fountain or being continually hit by a sprinkler every day. For that you must use the cement.
